"When you make certain updates to your Apple ID, we’ll send you an email to help you complete the update. For example, you might have reset your password, reset your security questions, or added a new email address to your account." Also check your junk mail.

Passwords these days can block access to thousands of dollars of equipment and everything you do with an account including banking. You may wish to develop a system where you have a record of them in case you forget them. It is getting harder and harder to them reset as you can read in the support articles I provided.
