MacBook Air: USB-C splitter not extending to dual monitors

Hi Community,

For M22******- M4 2025

Looking to extend 2x monitor using only One Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C)

What would you recommend?

I currently use a USB-C to 2x HDMI splitter - this works fine with any other windows laptop - however not with my Mac Air.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

regards Ro

If this is a plain USB-C device that depends on DisplayPort MST to drive two or more displays, it will not work. Macs do not support the use of MST over plain USB-C(DisplayPort) connections. The typical symptom is that the Mac only sees one monitor, while the hub feeds a copy of the same signal to the other.

You need a genuine Thunderbolt hub, dock, or dual-display adapter if you want to attach two monitors (up to 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz each) using a single docking cable to the Mac,
