Audio switching to internal speaker during WhatsApp calls

Since the iOS26 update I got an annoying bug which is still present. When someone's calling me on WhatsApp and I use the external speaker audio, if i switch the call window to any other (whatsapp chat or another app) the audio is redirected to the internal phone speaker. I have to tap twice the "speaker" icon to restore this.....

How can I fix that? I have the latest updates installed. And i can't find any option that would fix that, nor I can find any information in Google about this issue.

I know they released an update just late yesterday. The developer notes mention switch audio again, bug fixes and optimizations. Before updating, try deleting the old app and installing fresh from the Apple App Store. Meta support has recommended deleting first then updating, as well.

So I reinstalled WhatsApp completely and it didn't help. However, for now what seem to fix the issue at least in some extent is disabling Headphone Safety feature. Which doesn't make any sense cause I don't have problems with audio when my headphones are connected. Can you advise, what can i do in this case? I doubt that sending any feedback will help here. And I also don't want to disable that headphones safety feature...

But again maybe it's just an assumption cause sometimes i get this volume bug when i switch off my screen to just listen the audio and it becomes mute.

Also, quite repeatable bug is when the audio is playing, I lock my screen, it goes black, then I tap to wake up my iphone, the screen gets unlocked and the audio gets mute (very quiet). Only if i change volume and then restart the audio it again plays at normal volume.

Yes, my app is updated to the latest version. However, the issue been around since iOS26 update I believe. I didn't contact Meta support on that cause I'm pretty sure it's on the Apple side. After all, I don't think I'm such a unique user to experience this bug alone on the planet, since I use my phone normally as any other user. It's just that probably other users never switched apps during the call or listening to the audio message, so they didn't pay attention.

"Their notes for the last update introduced a new feature involving switching audio" - if this was the reason then it would start recently, but it's quite an old bug. I just got too much annoyed of that and decided to finally ask....
