How do I reset a new iPad to its original state after an unsuccessful setup?

I tried to set up new iPad and it wouldn't connect with old one to transfer. So I tried connecting it to my MacBook Air -big mistake. It is now set up like my laptop. I need to erase the new iPad and start over. How do I do that?
