How to fix unresponsive power/side button on iPhone 14 Pro Max?

My power/side button on my IPhone 14 Pro Max suddenly became unresponsive I didn’t drop it in water or anything. I went to the Apple Store and we were unable to use Assistive touch as that also requires to double click side button to confirm. Nothing we did worked. They said they would need to change the whole phone or something which would be £599. I think it’s way too much money for just the power/side button alone not working. I don’t know what to do I can’t use Apple Pay, I can’t buy anything online using my phone, Can’t screenshot, can’t restart phone, can’t lock phone. All because the power button isn’t working.

Your button has failed and it is imbedded in the Logic Board. Since Apple does not do component repair, they only have the option to replace the Logic Board and in most cases it would not make since to do that with the cost approaching the price of a new phone.

That is where you are at. You may be able to find a local repair shop, but we would rarely recommend to have work done by an unauthorized provider as you may end up with a phone that still does not work and Apple will not be able to provide further assistance.
