Safari problem- clearing small images of previously cited websites

I clear all history on Safari on MacBook Pro. But if I restart Safari and pinch I always get small images of previously visited websites. I want to delete them. How please?

We don't know precisely your way of working with tabs in Safari.

If I'm not mistaken: The small images you see when you 'pinch' are websites you still have open in that Safari window.

If you do not want to see the small images, you may need to close the tabs for those still-open websites by clicking the small x on their tab. (More info. if needed: Close Tabs in Safari on Mac)

and / or ... With Safari open: See what settings you have in place for closing tabs:

Choose Safari > Settings > Tabs > Automatically Close Tabs

(you can choose 'manually' to DIY, or set a time period (day week month)

Tip: When about to Quit Safari, we have the option to click the red dot in the top left corner of a window to close the window, along with all the open tabs in that window, so they won't re-open when we open Safari again.
