Ever since the latest update on my 2019 MacBook Pro, I can't get it to detect ANY external drives or accessories! Anybody else got this problem? Any fixes?

What update? From what to what?
What file system is on the external drives? And the exact make & model of those drives?
What other accessories specifically?
If any of those devices require or you are using the manufacturer's proprietary software, then you need to make sure that software is using the most recent versions. And make sure those versions are actually compatible with the exact version of macOS you are currently using.

is there a dock /hub involved?
Are there adapters involved?
Is this plugged directly into the Mac?
I thought that too initially, (I was trying to connect a Kobo thru a USB A hub), but then I tried connecting Kobo & Kindle directly via USB C to USB C cable, nothing! Then I tried 3 different external drives, some directly, some thru different USB hub, NOTHING! I had no issues until that last update was pushed thru last week after I ignored it for this very reason - let Apple fix any bugs before I accept updates!
MacBook Pro can't detect any external drives etc after latest update, help!
