Cannot pay with Apple Pay without Touch ID on safari on a MacBook.

Why doesn't Apple allow payment with Apple pay on Safari on Macbook without Touch id?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.7

I missed no point. The cards are added to Apple Wallet with only the permission of the issuing bank and the payment network operator (Visa, Mastercard, American Express etc.). Apple plays virtually no role in adding your cards, use of your cards, transaction data provided in your wallet, approval of payments etc.

Banks know devices can stolen, borrowed, lost etc. A MacBook is a portable device. It’s subject to basically the same threats your iPhone and Apple Watch are.

Biometrics are a necessary means to prevent unauthorized access to making payments with the bank’s card. It also reduces the risk of fraud over traditional authorization methods such as swiping the physical card or inserting the chip.

Why don’t banks ask for biometrics information at point of sale? Banks know the cost to merchants would escalate, consumers would be inconvenienced, transactions would be slower and possibly frustrate customers. Biometric data storage would be another way personal data could be lost to hackers.

Stay safe out there.
