Can't add iPad to MacBook Pro iCloud due to email

I have a MacBook Pro which I have an iCloud account set up already. My husband bought me an ipad for Christmas and I want to add this to the same iCloud account. Unfortunately my MacBook account is with a different email account. It won't let me change my email address on my original MacBook iCloud account to that of the email account on my iPad. Do I have to cancel my MacBook iCloud account and try setting up a new iCloud account on my iPad and then add my MacBook to that new account? For some reason it won't let me do it the other way around

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 15.7

Not sure why you created a new account for the iPad.

You can simply log out of the account on the iPad and log in with the account you use on the Mac.

On the iPad, go to Settings ➜ Account ➜ (Scroll to the bottom) ➜ Sign Out, then sign in with the account from the Mac.

Don't try to create a new account with the same email, just log in with the account from the Mac, that's it.
