Trade in cracked iPhone 16 Pro Max with AppleCare?

I currently have a 16-Pro Max. It has some cracks on the back of the phone, but I am ready to replace it and get the 17 Pro Max anyway. If I have Apple Care, can I just trade it in for a new phone?

AppleCare has nothing to do with trading in. Yes, you can trade in your iPhone 16 Pro Max. After examining your iPhone you will be given a trade-in value to go toward a new iPhone. Cracks on the back will significantly lower the trade-in value however, maybe even $0. AppleCare does not cover accidental damage unless you purchased AppleCare+ with accidental damage coverage.

If you were hoping it would be an even exchange that’s not how it works.
