AppleCare replacement iPhone 13 usage

my friend has found his iPhone 13 6 months after he claimed a replacement with AppleCare. Is the old phone able to be used?

Technically, probably yes, unless the insurance company who provided the replacement coverage (Apple works with a third-party insurance provider for AppleCare+ Theft & Loss coverage) had the phone blacklisted. From a legal standpoint (caveat: I am not a lawyer and certainly not a specialist in insurance contract law), in most jurisdictions the old phone now belongs to the insurance company now and he should contact them and ask them what he should do.

Regards.
