Numbers Update wont open and doesn't recognize existing docs.

I just updated Numbers, Pages and Keynote to the latest versions. The old versions were not automatically replaced, so for a few days both versions were on my MacBook. I read instructions saying to remove the old version by dragging it to the trash. Now, when I try to open an existing Numbers document I get an error message saying "there is no application set to open the document". When I select "choose application" Numbers is not a recommended application to open my existing Numbers documents and is greyed out. I then select "all applications" and Numbers becomes selectable. When I select Numbers, I then get a message saying "It is not know if the application can open this document". However, it does open the document successfully. I thought that after choosing Numbers as an application that would cause additional Numbers documents to open with the new version, but not only is that not the case, if I open the same document again, I must go through all the steps above. How can I associate my existing documents with the new version, so they open appropriately? I appreciate all help.

In Tahoe 26.3 Yyou can set up an association with an app via Finder.

First select a .numbers document in Finder, and try one of these:

1 - right-click > Open with > Other. Select the version you want and click 'Always Open With':

or,

2 - command-I and select the version you want:
