Airplane mode synchronization issue

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with Airplane Mode synchronization between my phone and my watch. Let me explain more clearly.

Devices: iPhone 17 Pro updated to iOS 26.3 (the latest at the moment) and Apple Watch 6 updated to watchOS 26.3 (same as above).

If I enable Airplane Mode from the phone’s Settings, the Apple Watch also goes into Airplane Mode. I’ve noticed that the same happens if I do it from Control Center using the square button that groups the various connectivity controls (Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.).

The problem arises when, as I have it set up, I use the Control Center button that only toggles Airplane Mode (size doesn’t matter — 1x1, 1x2, or 2x2): when I press that button, the Apple Watch does not activate Airplane Mode.

How can I fix this? This is the mode I prefer to use (I only used the grouped connectivity button to test it, but I don’t normally keep it in Control Center).

Thanks everyone.

Open the Watch app on the iPhone.

Go to General.

Go to Airplane Mode.

Make sure "Mirror iPhone" is toggled "on." If you want it to mirror the iPhone for Airplane Mode.

On mine, that mirror iPhone option is toggled off and my watch does not mirror the iPhone.

Thank you for the reply.
The recommended settings are already enabled; in fact, it works in the two ways I mentioned. The issue only occurs when using the specific Airplane Mode button in the iPhone Control Center: in that case, the Apple Watch does not synchronize Airplane Mode.

According to various Apple help documents, there are multiple ways to go to Airplane Mode -- you already knew that of course. However Apple does indicate that some of those Airplane Mode activation methods not only turn off cellular but also turn off Bluetooth and WiFi as well. For those, I would expect sync with other devices (e.g. Watch) might not be possible since the connectivity between devices would be turned off. Some of the Airplane Mode activation methods only turn off cellular but leave Bluetooth and WiFi on, so in those instances, sync might still work.

You might explore the different methods and see which does what you want, and which does not.

There may be other settings on the Watch that come into play. I have never explored this much because I just activate Airplane Mode when on an airplane and then WiFi (and Bluetooth) still stay active, which is what I want; I do it from the box that contains Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, Cellular, and WiFi buttons.
