I hate the way of choosing colors in Pages

I hate the way colors are chosen in Pages since the new OS update. There used to be a grid that included a way to grayscale a color option. That is gone. Now there are only the spectrum and sliders options to edit a color. Has anyone found a way to grayscale a color using these new tools?

You are not exactly specific as to what you want to apply grayscale. If it is a colored shape, as an example, then on the Style panel, you click the globe below the Color Fill selector and the Slider toolbar item on the resulting color chooser that appears. There is a grayscale slider selection available and manipulating that changes a color shape to your preference to grayscale. This has not changed for years.

Hi VikingOSX,

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to write a document in color so it’s the text that I’m trying to change. Thank you for the screen shot but I don’t see the window you’ve got. When I’m in pages I choose the paintbrush and have the options for coloring the text with a grid, spectrum, or sliders. There used to be the kind of grayscale only slider that I see in the window you provided. This is what seems to be gone since the update. I can move to darken a color within the spectrum but that is not the same as grayscaling a lighter color to make it a bit less bold. It might also be significant that I’m using an ipad pro running OS 26.3.

Historically, the Pages community has been macOS oriented Pages questions, and without an initial hardware profile, you received my macOS Pages v15.1.1 response.

Owing to hardware differences, Pages for i/Pad/OS is implemented differently, and for changing selected text color to grayscale, the following is a screen shot from my M4 iPad Pro (26.3) and Pages v15.1.1 showing a selected segment of text set to a picked grayscale:

VikingOSX,

Thanks for the follow up. I have seen that and used it. But when picking a color the opacity creates a different shade that the previous slider (the one I’m missing) would brighten/darken. It was like adding a bit of gray paint to an overly bold color. The colors on the grid tend to the flourescent as they get lighter and the previous slider allowed me to choose a lighter color and mute it a bit so that it wasn’t so bright. The oppacity helps but I was hoping there was something more I had missed that would give me the same effect as the past versions. Thank you for your responses!
