Preview app continues to crash

Since the update to Sonoma 14.8.4 my preview app does not work. If I select to open a file (any file, .pdf, .jpeg, .heic) in Preview, it opens for half a second and immediately crashes.

I get a system report

(Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 10 Bus error: 10

Terminating Process: exc handler [4228])

I've tried clearing Preview's cache, I've tried clearing the .plist, no help there. When I boot in safe mode, or use another user account there is no problem with Preview.

What could I be missing??

As I mentioned above, when I open it while in safe mode preview opens no problem.

Sorry I missed that part. This means some third party software is most likely interfering with the normal operation of macOS. Typical culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software......none of which are needed on a Mac. These types of apps usually cause more problems than they solve. If you have any of these types of apps installed, then follow their developer's instructions to uninstall them.

If you still have problems, then run the third party app EtreCheck and post the complete report here so we can examine it for clues.

How much Free storage space do you have on this computer? You need to use Disk Utility to show you the actual Free storage space value since the "Available" storage value shown every where in macOS is very misleading and is not synonymous with Free.

Try rebooting the computer to see if that makes any difference.

If still not working, then try booting into Safe Mode & try to open it.

Open the Preview app, then use the Preview File-->Open to try opening the file this way.
