Music gone from phone
I had about 60 gigs of music on my phone. I upgraded my Macbook Air M2
2022 8gb to tahoe 26.3.1 I went to add some songs to my Iphone and all
of my songs are now gone. Is this a bug or feature? Is there anything I
can do?

iTunes previously and now Finder, operate on the assumption that the Library on the computer is the master and as such it controls what can be synced to the iPhone. If the library on the iPhone is not the same as on the Mac, the sync process wipes the library on the iPhone and then syncs the contents of the Mac library or any selected tracks, albums or playlists from there.
The iPhone library should always be backed up on a computer to avoid things like this. It should never be the only location for music you have and cherish.
As it is, once the iPhone library is wiped during the sync Process, there is nothing that can be done to recover it.
If you have a backup of your library somewhere, like an external drive, you can re-sync it to the iPhone.

You were fully in charge of updates, auto install or not, in Settings, General, Software Update.
If you did decide to update, you MUST turn off auto update for next time. Stay in control.
Ipads should update without destroying ripped or downloaded music, but stuff happens. Manual music sync has always been Mac to iPad, but if iCloud Music gets turned on (please check) then the ripped stuff disappears.
Just to be clear.
I did not opt in for an update. It happened because I didn't deny it one time. So this computer automatically updated itself, and the moment My phone plugs into it I lose all of my songs. SO in order to combat this outrageousness; the solution is "If you have a backup of your library somewhere, like an external drive, you can re-sync it to the iPhone". WOW! True Genius Bar levels of solutions. Thanks.
I pay for cloud service that decides; whenever it wants to or not, to update new files so I can browse them on my phone and you would think their would be more warnings when your phone or computer decides to just wipe everything "Just cause" you don't press "Do it later" for the updates.
The resolution I heard, is Samsung Phones uses "External" Drives and cards so consider those in the future. Thanks Apple!
