Lock screen not working; 'Require password' greyed out

After inactivity the lock screen used to kick in but recently has stopped working, this is now a potential security issue. In settings the lock screen 'Require password' has been greyed out so I'm at a loss as to how to get it back.

…and the iPhone is usually not mirrored

It’s the setting, not actually mirroring at the time. If it is allowed to mirror, you are prevented from changing the password required setting.

There is more to this problem, though as the setting is grayed out because it must be on in those two situations (perhaps there are more). Something is preventing it from locking. Can you manually go to the Lock Screen from the menu?

Sorry about the delay. I've done as suggested and the 'require password' is no longer greyed out. The problem is still there however as I've only just realised that the display is not turning off regardless of the time set - be it 10minutes or one. When finishing I turn off the monitor manually and don't usually wait for the setting to activate.

When switching the monitor back on there is still no lock screen.

I thought it was in the Airplay & Continuity settings, but you may just have to disable it on the iPhone Settings.

I had thought there were settings to enable asking for unlock, but can't find them now that it is disconnected.

I have turned mine off as I found it essentially useless. It would always ask to unlock the iPhone to use the mirroring function. If I had the iPhone at hand to be able to unlock it, I would have just used it.
