iPhone 17 Pro Max: 99% battery health at 86 cycles normal?

Title: iPhone 17 Pro Max battery health dropped to 99% at 86 cycles – anyone else experienced this?


Hi everyone,


I noticed that my iPhone 17 Pro Max battery health dropped to 99% at only 86 charge cycles, which feels a bit early to me.


Battery info:

• Maximum Capacity: 99%

• Cycle Count: 86

• Design Capacity: ~4832 mAh


Based on the usual calculation, 99% would mean roughly ~4784 mAh Full Charge Capacity, which is about 48 mAh lower than the design capacity.


What made me question it is that one of my friends has an iPhone 17 Pro with 72 cycles and it still shows 100% battery health.


I also recently had my display replaced after an accidental damage, but the battery itself wasn’t replaced.


So I’m curious:


• Has anyone else seen their battery drop to 99% this early (around 80–90 cycles)?

• Could battery recalibration after repair affect the estimate?

• Or is this something others have experienced with newer iPhones?


Just wanted to see if this is common or if I should be concerned.

Don't get hung up on "normal", because there really is no "normal" when it comes to batteries. They are chemical devices, and they don't pay much attention to specifications.


As a rough guide, you might expect the Battery Health to decline about 1% for every 50 Charge Cycles. So, to keep things simple, let's say that your battery has completed 100 Charge Cycles, so that's 2%.


So, 100% less 2% = 98%. Also, keep in mind that Apple always rounds down the percentage numbers. So, your battery might actually be at 98.9%......but Apple will display this as 98%.


No reason to be concerned. All that you really need to remember is to replace the battery when it drops under 80% Max Capacity.

That is exactly where it should be. Your battery is expected to last 1000 charge cycles before the Battery Health drops below 80%. That means on average a 1% drop will be seen for every 50 charge cycles. Not that is just an average and the drops are not linear, meaning some months will not drop at all and other months may drop more. Also it is not expected that the drop would occur at exactly 50 charge cycles, but you are well within the range and performing better than average.


Btw, the iPhone 12 was only expected to last 500 charge cycles before the Battery Health dropped below 80%. Over the full life of the battery on that device, the average was a 1% drop for every 25 charge cycles. A single drop is not representative of the full average you would see.

Your friends were lucky. Their battery was actually above 100% when new, but Apple will display this as 100%.


For example, if the battery was actually at 102% when new, then it would take around 100 Charge Cycles before the battery displayed 100%.


Don't try to babysit the battery, It won't help. All that you really need to remember is to replace the battery when it drops under 80% Maximum Capacity.

The measure of battery health deterioration/drainage is subjective and can vary depending on individual usage patterns. There is no universal standard to determine whether the battery health deterioration/drainage is normal or abnormal because it heavily relies on how the battery is used and maintained.

No, I think it’s totally normal. I only dropped 1% in cycle 42 and thought that was fine until I compared with my colleagues — they had 70,100 and 120 cycles with capacity 100%. I contacted Apple to ask what was going on, and they told me the battery performance is excellent with no issues. Honestly, I’m not fully convinced by what they said, but the point is: you’re totally fine.

I have my iPhone 17 Pro now with 152 charge cycles (bought October 2025) and it has a battery health of 103% (used Coconut battery to test)



I had many iPhones in my life, but no one had such a good battery health in the first 7 months. This is really good. Maybe this vapor chamber makes the device cooler overall and the battery health to last longer.
