Recovered iPhone shows 'iPhone Unavailable

My iPhone says "iPhone unavailable" after I found it after a few days of being lost. It was robbed and returned to me when they were not able to use it.

Somebody tried guessing your passcode too many times.

If you see a waiting period you can try again after the timer ends. If you wish to proceed with resetting, or if it is disabled/security lockout/unavailable, refer to this support article for various methods that you can use to resolve this. --> https://support.apple.com/105090 Which one you can use depends upon your equipment configuration. If you can use the iOS15.2+ method you may not need a computer.

Limons, how long do you think I should wait for the timer to end? There is no timer mentioned on the screen.

If there is no timer displayed on the screen, it means that someone guessed the wrong passcode so many times that the phone has gone into a security lockout state.

The only way back in is to reset and erase it. (At which point you will probably need to supply your Apple ID, and Apple ID password, to satisfy Activation Lock.)

In fact, depending on how you had the phone set up, the phone might have erased itself the instant that the bad guys made the last allowed passcode entry attempt. But even if it didn't, any data stored only on that iPhone is essentially gone. You will need to rely on your backups, and/or on synchronized data in iCloud, to get data back after you reset and wipe the phone.
