Default search engine in Safari changed to Google

Why is safari no longer my search engine? google is doing my searches

iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26

The big question is... what do you want/expect to use as your search engine.


Safari is a web browser, nothing more. It doesn't do searches.


When you perform a search in Safari, it passes the request to a search engine, which processes the query, guesses what it is you're looking for, and passes back the results. Most people use Google for that, others use Bing, DuckDuckGo, or others.


You can use Settings -> Search -> Search engine to tell Safari which search engine to use by default:



Not sure if that's what you're driving at.
