I have an Apple return label to recycle my 2015 iMac. Is it acceptable to ship this back in the original product box from a local vendor or does it need to be packaged in an additional shipping box?

Yes, I understand that can be done - but in my case, the nearest Apple Store is well over an hour's drive away over very congested roads, and I am in the middle of "trying times" .... So that is not a good option for me.
You do mean "in the original product box" (no additional packaging),correct?

After I prepared my iMac for recycling, I walked it the length of a football field from the mall parking lot into the Apple Store. The recycle time was under 10 minutes.
