How to fix Apple search functions not working on iOS 26.4.2?

ALL APPLE SEARCH FUNCTIONS NOT WORKING

currently on iOS 26.4.2 and for the past two-three weeks all my search functions whether it’s my spotlight search, internal key word email search, iMessage key word search, or photo keyword search. Anything related to a core Apple application can no longer search. I’ve tried numerous ways to fix this issue i.e hard reset, changing the langue then hard reset, shutting off all Siri settings, I’ve even had a full iOS update since this issue and that did not resolve it. I recently purchased more iCloud space thinking the back up was the issue but that also did not fix this issue. Any help would be much appreciated! I use my phone for work and the search features are extremely helpful to me so I’ve been struggling without them.

Per the earlier posts, many of us have experienced the problem PRIOR to updating to a new iOS. I’m not sure what caused the phone to start indexing and, apparently, get stuck in the process of doing so. (Yes, we’ve all tried a hard reset.) Hopefully, others will report the issue to Apple, as well, and if we get some helpful feedback from Apple support, we can share it here…

Issues which are not widespread, nor do they affect everyone who updated their iPhone are harder for Apple to address. As I mentioned, search is working as expected on every device we have on iOS 26.4.2. I don't doubt you and some others have an issue. I do think if it was really widespread, this forum, the most visited forum in the world for all things iPhone would be blowing up with people complaining, but it's not. And the tech press would be all over this if it was a widespread issue, but they're not.

I sincerely hope it can be resolved for you and anyone else who is having this issue.

I’ve been experiencing the same issue with my iPhone 15 Pro Max recently.

I’ve tried various troubleshooting steps, including:

- Resetting all settings.

- Reinstalling iOS through recovery mode using my Mac.

- Changing the language to something other than English US and turning off all search-related settings.

- Restarting the device.

- Turning the search settings back on after changing the language back to English US and restarting.

These steps haven’t resolved the issue, and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating, especially since I have over 180 apps installed. The search function doesn’t work in Spotlight, Settings, Messages, etc. basically all places in native ios.

I had a similar issue with my iPad Air M2, but following the troubleshooting steps mentioned above, it started working on the iPad. However, this solution doesn’t seem to be effective on my iPhone.

I’m curious to know when Apple will address this issue. It’s disheartening to see how unreliable iOS has become.

I’m having the same issue ever since yesterday when I got the iOS 26.4.2 update. And I use search for everything! Messages, settings, searching for particular photos, and apps….none of these will allow me to search suddenly. I’ve tried other suggestions to toggle things on and off in settings. I’ve tried a reboot multiple times as well as shutting down. Had no problems using search before updating to 26.4.2. I did an iCloud backup before updating and although I doubt that’s going to help solve my issue I am going to try it later today if I don’t find a solution. I REALLY don’t want to have to wipe my phone and start over or even upgrade to a beta (because then I’m surely just introducing other new bugs right?)

anyway. I suppose my issue isn’t exactly the same as yours being the difference that you started experiencing this before the current iOS…unless you do beta updates? (I don’t…have in the past many years ago but not with my current iPhone 16 promax

Same here. (15 Pro on 26.4.2). I noticed the issues several days ago, which was prior to the latest iOS update. I had hoped the update would fix the issue. It did not. I regularly leave the phone charged and on fast wifi overnight. I've tried all of OP's attempted fixes, as well. As noted, it seems that this is a widespread issue that remains unresolved. Very frustrating! At this point, I'm just hoping that the phone IS actually indexing and will magically be fixed in a matter of time (a week, a month, a year???)

I’m having this issue too. It’s affecting all search features! It was working perfectly fine yesterday then today nada. I’m on ios 26.4.2 16 pro max.

I use search for everything so it’s extremely frustrating. Not sure when my phone updated last. I really don’t want to do a full reset as it’s a complete pain in the ar5e!
