An unusual question; I am using a MacBook Pro with an external keyboard & monitor. The left shift key will not let me make a capital w but the right shift key will. Is this the end of life for this keyboard?

Try a different keyboard and compare your results...
If you set up some custom shortcut, try disabling that, ref:
Create keyboard shortcuts for apps on Mac
Typically single key issue is a hardware fault.

Is W the only letter that does not work with the left shift key?
This only started yesterday & it's the only letter I have come across so far.
I just did a quick text doc, yes the only letter not working!
