Safari frozen on macOS Sequoia after OS reinstall

Safari is frozen and won’t function

IMac Retina 5K 27 inch 2019

MacOS 15.7.5 Sequoia

32 GB RAM

Intel 3.6 GHz 8-core I9

Safari updated 26.4

Frozen with 50 tabs

Scanned daily with MalwareBytes 5.4.1

Scanned weekly with Intego One Viruscan 1.2.4

Sequence:

-Safari has worked fine with up to 80 tabs open.

-Recently it suddenly froze while loading a page

-Definition of frozen here – It begins to load a page; then it stops. Red activity line usually stops around 10%.

-Closed Safari and re-opened three times; always waiting several minutes; in case it was just slow.

-Checked router to make sure Internet wasn’t at fault, and internet worked fine with Firefox browser

-Restarted Mac in Restore Mode and loaded a fresh macOS 15.7.5

-Safari still frozen; even after deleting all tabs

Experts kindly help.

-I assume now that it’s not the app; but some corruption in the Library minutia contents, or Terminal.

-I am not an expert, but I am all Mac since 1988. Therefore; if a solution involves trashing something in the library; I’m comfortable with that.

-If it involves modifying something in Terminal, kindly layout the instructions and characters in detail, and I’m comfortable with following your instructions.

-I assume my bookmarks and tab groups will not be affected by these actions. If not; kindly let me know how to isolate them from deletion.

first, I would recommend completely uninstalling Intego anti virus. apps like those are completely useless on a Mac, and are well known to cause MAJOR issues within macOS.

that said, i’m thinking you should download and run the free version of EtreCheck so we can see if you have some software installed that is causing your issue. make sure you give "full disk access" to etrecheck. Learn how to use it by reading Using EtreCheck. if you need help interpreting the report, you can see how to post the report here by reading How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report. and it automatically obscures sensitive things (like serial numbers) so you don't have to worry about sharing the report here.

jeffreythefrog Safari is running again. Uninstalled Intego One, and a few other minor Etrecheck Library suggestions; emptied the trash; restarted, and all is well. Intego One might just be the problem; though I've subscribed to them for almost a decade now; though that was their X-series. Will regret dumping them. Will contact them about this. Was forced to jump to their new Intego One, because they've abandoned X-series for new Intego One. May not be fully debugged yet. Have a pleasant weekend.

great, I'm glad you have it sorted out. :)

but I would caution against reinstalling anything Intego. the fact that you removed it and appears to have helped just reinforces my belief that it is basically junk-ware.

if you are determined to reinstall Intgo, I would first recommend you read Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community. it's a long article, but it's worth your time to read every word.
