iPhone 14 & MacBook issues: AirDrop, iMessage, volume

iphone syncing macbook

For about four months I continue to have three very specific problems with my iPhone 14, problems I already had with my previous iPhone XR.

(1) I cannot airdrop anything from my MacBook to my iPhone ("No People Found"), but I have no problem airdropping anything from my iPhone to my MacBook.

(2) Some iMessages sync from my iPhone to my MacBook, others don’t. Very inconsistent.

(3) The volume on my iPhone switches to silent at any given time. This “switching to silence” happens just like that, even when I don’t touch my iPhone

All my operating systems and software are up-to-date as per today.

I took all the usual steps: Restarting, deleting, reinstalling, checking, unchecking, switching WiFi off and on, the whole shebang. To no avail.

I asked for advice from ChatGTP, Grok and Gemini.

All three came virtually with the same laundry lists of how to solve each of the three problems, including what I did already, plus a dozen steps via the Terminal app.

TO NO AVAIL.

Is there something that can be done, or is this a unique case?

Try this

1. The AirDrop One-Way Block ("No People Found" from Mac to iPhone)

  • The Culprit: Your Mac's Bluetooth/Bonjour network cache or your Apple ID contact card linkage is failing to resolve the target device's hardware identifier inbound.
  • The Fix:
    • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Contacts > My Info and ensure your own name is selected. Then open the Apple ID / Account settings on both devices and verify that the exact same primary email address is used for iMessage/AirDrop identification.
    • Reset the Mac's sharing identity: Go to System Settings > General > Sharing on your Mac, turn File Sharing off and on, and edit your computer name to force a network broadcast refresh.
