Cannot preview ringtones

Cannot preview ringtones

In iPhone 4 > Ringtones > Genre or Featured, I cannot preview the ringtone after tapping the ringtone item. I get an iphone response of "To preview or purchase ringtones, upgrade to iOS 3.1" This is a downgrade...why?

iPhone4, iOS 4, also Mac Pro G5

I would imagine it's a typo for "4.1", which was rumored to come out this week.

yea you could be right; wikipedia says 4.1 is due out in sept., so it could very well be just a typo. one can only hope :P

Yeah I hope this is fixed soon. I just got my iPhone and I want to buy some new ringtones. At least I'm not the only one...

Apple support told me to reset network settings -- Result: no joy.

Apple told me to use Restore when I sync with iTunes on my desktop -- Result: no joy.

Will contact apple again.

BTW, I am able to preview/purchase ringtones under Ringtones | Top Ten. However, the list is limited.

I no longer have the problem. Not sure how it fixed itself but perhaps two off-on cycles of the iPhone 4 did it after the restore attempts...or an update to the iOS may have occurred somehow.

The problem is not imagined, if someone speculates, as I got a hold of my two people I know, who both work Apple enterprise support, and were able to duplicate the problem. Anyway, problem has gone away.
