How to convert a Mac document to PDF from Finder

How can I convert a Mac document from the Finder list to PDF. I use the latest iOS version and a MacBook Air.

  1. Download or create the built-in Apple Pages to PDF Shortcut.
  2. Open Finder and select the Pages document (or hold Command and select multiple files).
  3. Right-click (or Control-click) your selected files.
  4. Go to Quick Actions and select Export Pages to PDF. The new PDF will instantly appear in the same folder. [123]

Method 2: Use Automator (Batch Conversion)

For an automated workflow to batch convert files to a specific destination folder: [1]


  1. Open Automator (found in your Applications folder) and select Workflow.
  2. Add these four actions in order: Get Specified Finder ItemsOpen Finder ItemsExport to PDF, and Move Finder Items.
  3. Add your Pages files into the first action, configure your desired export quality in the PDF action, and select your destination folder.
  4. Save the workflow and run it whenever you need batch conversions

The primary reason why I wrote that Pages-specific Quick Action to handle multiple document selections from the Finder. And unlike earlier AppleScript solutions, you don't see individual Pages documents being opened, with an export progress bar which is really distracting.
