Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon. Epson printer.

This popped up on my Mac: Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon. It updated overnight, and I checked my Epson Software (screenshots below). I am running macOS 26.5 now. Any suggestions for a new Epson app that will work?

I thought I found one in the app store (Printer App: Smart Printer), downloaded it, only to find it was $4.99 a month. I really don't want to pay anything.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

EcoTank ET-4850 Supports AirPrint.

Which means vendor drivers are unnecessary for common printing tasks.

Update the printer firmware, if the printer has that. Remove the vendor drivers. Use AirPrint.

It’s the 2803.

You do not need additionally software, because that Epson 2803 All-in-one Eco-Tank Printer supports AirPrint.

Use the Printers Control Panel and make sure the printer is connected to your local Wi-Fi network.

Then reset your iMac printing system and re-add the printer.

The Epson apps for this printer either apparently haven’t been rebuilt in nearly six years, or Epson is using very old app development tools.

Which model Epson printer? If it supports AirPrint, then the Epson apps and tools and drivers likely aren’t needed.

For feedback with this report, best contact Epson Support. Particularly if they’re going to be using feedback to decide which printers and which apps to update and which to deprecate.

I use Epson XP-7100 printer and am getting the same messages regarding Epson's Intel apps will not work in future iOS updates but cannot seem to find out how to change apps to Apple silicon based apps. Searched but could not find app updates to change to Apple silicon. Senior here, any help is appreciated!

Epson XP-7100 supports AirPrint, per page 34 in the manual:

This means the Epson vendor-provided drivers are not required for typical printing tasks.

As a test of this access path, you can remove the vendor-provided drivers, and attempt to print using AirPrint.

You don't. That is something Epson needs to do. Look on the Epson website for an Apple Silicon version of the software if they make one.

Otherwise, you will not be able to use the software in future macOS versions. You should still be able to use the printer though, but any features that the software specifically offered may not be available.

My Epson ET-2750 works fine for Printing and Scanning, without manually downloading any Epson software.

All you need to do, is connect the ET-2760 to your local Wi-Fi network and use macOS AirPrint.

Easiest is to ignore whoever that told you that (incomplete) info.

Your printer supports AirPrint, which means vendor drivers and vendor drivers are not required for common printing functions.

As a test of the AirPrint access path, remove the vendor-provided drivers, and attempt to print using AirPrint.

Had same issue. What happens when you even use the Epson install file Apple will over ride the setting and force a generic Air Print setting. To vefrify open your printers menu, right click on the printer and look for the "kind" entry. If it shows the "ET-4950 series-Air print" then that is the issue. You need to remove your printer and reinstall only using the printer IP address as shown here (per AI) so the Kind line has removed the words "Air print":

That alert is to let you know that Apple plans to remove Rosetta 2 support in macOS 28. Once you upgrade to that version of macOS (which won't be coming out until Fall of 2027) or later, Intel-only apps will no longer work.

As for Epson Event Manager, a little Google searching, and this online Epson manual, suggest that it is a utility that lets you initiate scanning using buttons on the scanner itself, and save the results to the computer. In other words, this program runs on your computer, and listens for events from the scanner saying "The user pushed a button, so automatically run code to capture the scanned image."

It seems likely that if you were willing to initiate scanning from the computer, rather than from the scanner, you'd be able to scan to the computer even if Epson Event Manager wasn't installed (or was no longer working in macOS 28, in the event that Epson fails to update it by then).

You don't 'change them' to Apple silicone based apps.

The developer of the app will have to provide one written and compiled specifically for Apple Silicone.

In this case, contact Epson support and ask if they will be providing one.

If you have important applications that are intended for use on Intel based Macs, do NOT upgrade to macOS Golden Gate until you have replaced all of them with Apple Silicone based apps.

What does the app do? I have no apps for my Epson AIO. It is AirPrint and ICA compatible, so it doesn’t need any apps to work. My guess is that you have never actually used that app.

Epson has several apps that are installed when setting up their printers. One is ink level monitoring, another is to scan from the printer. Also some photo editing features. No issue just printing or scanning from the Mac. In my case not having some of these features is not a big deal if they are not updated from Iintel to universal.
Well I guess. That’s great for you, but I was hoping to hear from the person who posted the question. And, you failed to even answer the question I asked.

That Epson app manages the scanning from the scanner. If it stops working because of the Intel transition it is not a problem because the Epson scanners (at least the two I have) can scan with Image Capture.
