Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon. Epson printer.

This popped up on my Mac: Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon. It updated overnight, and I checked my Epson Software (screenshots below). I am running macOS 26.5 now. Any suggestions for a new Epson app that will work?

I thought I found one in the app store (Printer App: Smart Printer), downloaded it, only to find it was $4.99 a month. I really don't want to pay anything.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi,
Rosetta sign up several components not compatible fr OS silicon, particulary for my printer all in ones Epson-ET-4850 Series.
There is not update avaible with Epson... Can you help me please ?

EcoTank ET-4850 Supports AirPrint.

Which means vendor drivers are unnecessary for common printing tasks.

Update the printer firmware, if the printer has that. Remove the vendor drivers. Use AirPrint.

Epson has several apps that are installed when setting up their printers. One is ink level monitoring, another is to scan from the printer. Also some photo editing features. No issue just printing or scanning from the Mac. In my case not having some of these features is not a big deal if they are not updated from Iintel to universal.

Well I guess. That’s great for you, but I was hoping to hear from the person who posted the question. And, you failed to even answer the question I asked.

What does the app do? I have no apps for my Epson AIO. It is AirPrint and ICA compatible, so it doesn’t need any apps to work. My guess is that you have never actually used that app.

Epson's manual – to which I posted a link earlier – tells you what Epson Event Manager is:

"Epson Event Manager is an application that allows you to manage scanning from the control panel and save images to a computer. You can add your own settings as presets, such as the document type, the save folder location, and the image format. See the application's help for details."

Unfortunately, since I first visited the manual, the https certificate on the site has expired – so Safari now gives me a security warning when I try to open the link, and asks if I really want to go there. (In this case, I said "Yes", but in general, one should be very cautious about following insecure links!)

You guessed wrong lol. I use the printer a lot, but that was the first time a message had appeared. My first thought was oh no, I'll have to buy a new printer. I used to be more tech savvy, but I now have a benign brain tumor that affects my thought process occasionally, so I appreciate all of the responses to my obviously dumb question.

99% of the time I do not use the app. I print from whatever program I’m using. I haven’t scanned anything for a year.

That app, event manager, neither print Norris scans. It does facilitate scanning to your Mac by pressing a button on the scanner. Do you ever use that? Or, like me do you just scan into an application much like you print?

Most Epson devices are AirPrint and ICA compatible, thus needing neither a printer nor scanner driver.
My Epson printer supports Air Print but lacks lots of settings if I use it.
Call me a cynic but I can't see printer manufacturers being unhappy if this results in users binning their current printers and buying new ones.

Depends on which vendor gets the next purchase.

What I look for:

  • AirPrint, IPP/IPPS, and TWAIN and ICA.

  • No WinPrint, no GDI.

  • In 2026, an embedded web server, and a competent and configuration-capable front panel.

  • No dependencies on vendor apps for initial setup, updates, operations.

I wouldn’t touch an Epson printer with a barge pole, however wonderful the hardware itself might be. That based on threads around here, and Epson web site, support, doc, and features.
