Do use whatever platform best meets your needs. If that is a Microsoft Windows PC, by all means migrate and use it!
If you decide to replace the printer and have eventual plans for Microsoft Windows, look for a printer with Internet Printing Protocol (IPP/IPPS) support. That’s what AirPrint uses, too.
For this Fuji Xerox DocuPrint M225 dw printer, new firmware from last year exists. If that firmware is not loaded, do load it. How to update the printer firmware here is unfortunately unclear, based on what is posted and what is documented. I’d try the web management interface, but the doc on that is decidedly lacking. (I’d expect to meet a certificate error or insecure website report accessing the embedded web server, though. No reason not to bypass that warning though, as long as you’re accessing your own printer.)
Usual recommendation for printing more generally is to use AirPrint, and not vendor drivers and apps.
