I've used my SD card reader for years, it also has usb a and the SSD drive works plugged though that adapter, but no cards at all, they've works for a long time so it's not the cards.
And hardware eventually fails. While an SSD may work connected to this adapter, that does not mean the SD Card Reader portion is Ok. Plus that connected SSD may be part of the problem here. Make sure to disconnect that SSD from the adapter and also disconnect all other devices from the laptop other than the card reader and a single SD Card.
Nothing will mount,
Mounting is irrelevant and a whole different problem. The first order of business is knowing whether the physical cards/drives appear on the left pane of Disk Utility using the instructions I provided in my previous post. If the physical drives don't appear, then of course there is nothing to mount. We need to make sure those physical drives appear before we deal with any data & volumes on those cards.
FYI, only refer to "mounting" when you are referencing being able to see/access the drive's icon on the Desktop or the Finder's sidebar. Refer to "connected" when talking about the physical device being shown on the left pane of Disk Utility (or in the case of a camera whether the physical device appears in the Apple System Profiler).
it won't show any SD cards with 2 different card readers. Even cameras plugged in directly which should show the contents through the camera connection
Again, are you using Disk Utility here? Or trying to see them in the Finder or elsewhere? Ignore the Finder and other areas of macOS and confirm whether any cards or camera's appear on the left pane of Disk utility.
Since I'm not sure camera's will show their internal storage in Disk Utility, you can check to see whether the physical camera is visible in the Apple System Profiler under the appropriate section on the left pane (USB, Thunderbolt/USB4). With macOS 26.x Tahoe.....Firewire devices are no longer supported.
Check the Apple System Profiler to confirm whether the SD Card Reader is physical seen under USB or Thunderbolt/USB4 sections. If you don't see a reference to the physical card reader, yet your SSD attached to this multi-adapter is seen, then it implies the card reader portion of the adapter is the problem (try with & without any SD Cards connected).
The cards show in the android and iPhone.
Only thing I can think of is the latest OS update that changed.
I guess I'll wait until the next update and see if anything changes, or wipe out the whole thing and start over

I do know that macOS Tahoe tends to need much higher quality cables & adapters than previous versions of macOS. You definitely need to try using a good high quality SD Card Reader from a respected brand......and make sure to confirm it is fully compatible with macOS 26.5 as well. This could explain why you can access the SD Cards on other devices, but not on this laptop running Tahoe. There are a lot of posts on the Apple Discussion forums where people got their external drives & display working again after they replaced their older cables....even new manufacturer supplied cables... with high quality cables which are less than one meter in length.
