Looking for software to clean up a 7-year-old MacBook

I agree with our friend, @jeffreythefrog.

Cleaning apps are nothing but bad news that don't get the job done.

Backup your data to an external drive and then wipe the drive and reinstall the macOS.

B. Clean iTunes Library:

Remove all unneeded files from your iTunes Libraries. Full-Movies take up 2-4GB typically, and a bunch of those would take up a load of storage, ideally. So, if you have any movies that are not needed, the delete them. They will be in the iTunes Store, so long as they are available in your location/region.

C. Clear System Data:

Use my User Tip: How to Use Finder to Clear “System Data" on a Mac - User Tip. It can take some time, but it may clear lots, and lots of space. So, be certain to backup your Mac, as mentioned my User Tip.

"cleaning" software is not recommended for Macs. it usually ends in disaster.

if it was me, I would manually move any data you want to keep onto an external SSD or HDD. and then fully erase the Mac, reinstall macOS, and move your saved data back onto the Mac. it may be a lot of work. but, IMHO, it is your best course of action.

If I recall correctly I ran OSX Tiger on a Mac non-stop for almost 10 years and never saw the need to "clean" anything. The cleaning I did do was for things I wouldn't want any tool to do, such as photos I didn't want anymore. Using a cleaning tool loose on a Mac is like letting your mother clean your room for you.
