AirPods Pro 3 - Hearing Test

I bought the Airpods Pro 3 for the hearing aid function. They want me to do a hearing test in order to set this up. when I try to run a hearing test I get the following message. "An AirPods Pro diagnostics check is needed before you can test your hearing. It will run automatically after you close the case and you can try to test your hearing again in a few minutes". However, after following these instructions, I get the same message. I have also tried to do a hard reset, following Apple's instructions. I double-tap when the light is green, double-tap again when the light is white, then the 3rd instruction is to double-tap again when the white light flashes faster. It doesn't flash faster! I have tried various combinations such as double-tapping again on the slow flashing white light, but still no amber light. Any help please? I'm so excited to try these to help with my poor hearing

The message saying a diagnostics check is needed before you can test your hearing is normal and expected when you first set up the AirPods Pro 3 for the hearing health features. The issue you are running into with the reset instructions is that the manual reset process for the AirPods Pro 3 is slightly different from what you may be used to with older AirPods models.

For the AirPods Pro 3, the reset is done using the case itself, not by tapping on the earbuds. Here is the correct process: put both AirPods Pro 3 into the case and close the lid. Wait about 30 seconds. Then open the lid. On the back of the case there is a small button. Press and hold that button for about 15 seconds. The status light on the front of the case will flash amber for a few seconds and then turn white. When it flashes white, the reset is complete.

After that, go through the setup process again by bringing the case near your iPhone with the lid open. Once the AirPods reconnect to your iPhone, open the Health app and look for the Hearing section to set up the hearing test. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations > Custom Audio Setup.

The diagnostics check that was blocking the hearing test should complete automatically in the background after the AirPods reconnect and sit idle for a few minutes in a quiet environment. Once it finishes, the hearing test option should become available. If it still shows the same message after waiting 10 minutes after reconnecting, try putting the AirPods back in the case, closing the lid for a minute, and then reopening and trying again.
