iPhone 17 Pro won't turn on after battery drained

Hi,

I’m looking for some advice please regarding my 2 month old iphone 17 pro as it has suddenly stopped responding completely.

It was working perfectly fine yesterday. I noticed the battery was down to 1%, and it shut off before I managed to get it onto charge. Since then, I haven’t been able to get it to turn back on at all.

I’ve left it charging overnight with the original USB-C charger and have also tried different chargers, cables, plugs and power sources. I’ve connected it to a Windows PC and tried multiple force restarts, but nothing happens.

The screen is completely black with no Apple logo, battery icon, vibration or any other sign of life.

The phone hasn’t been dropped, damaged or exposed to water, so I’m really confused as it was working normally right up until the battery died.

thanks

There have been multiple reported instances of iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models failing to accept charge if the battery charge becomes low or fully exhausted - as you have experienced. A software patch, that explicitly addresses this iPhone 17 issue, has been released - this being iOS 26.5.1.

About iOS 26 Updates - Apple Support

Connect your iPhone to its Power Adapter and allow the iPhone to charge, undisturbed, for at least 24 hours. Then, if the iPhone will restart, keep the iPhone connected to external power - and immediately update to iOS 26.5.1.

If the iPhone will not restart, seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

You can also initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting and performing the required software update:

Keeping in mind that the charge level of modern lithium batteries should never go below 15-20%, and if you are sure that your power supply and cable are working correctly, it could be a hardware problem (battery? charging port? other internal component?).

Also, did you update your 17 Pro to the latest iOS version, now 26.5.1? (that version is specific for battery charging issues)

If you already updated to no avail, since your device is covered by warranty, I suggest that you contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Contact Apple for support and service , or even better make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> https://locate.apple.com/choose-country-region . After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Search for accessories that have completed MFi certification. Once an accessory has completed MFi certification requirements and is reported to Apple as sold/distributed, it will be searchable in our public database of authorized Lightning, headset, charging, iAP-enabled, and Find My network-enabled accessories.

Thank you all for your help.
I left the phone off the charger while waiting for a wireless charger to arrive. In the end, I didn’t need it after all, as the phone suddenly powered back on and is now working normally.
I appreciate everyone’s suggestions and assistance.😊

You're very welcome.

Now that the iPhone has powered-on, keep it connected to the Power Adapter and update to iOS 26.5.1. This step is essential as the this update, explicitly for iPhone 17 models, patches the problem that inhibits charging of a low battery.
