Siri's Gemini integration raises privacy concerns

Google gemini concerns

I chose Apple products because of Apple’s historic commitment to privacy and independence from Google’s data ecosystem.

The integration of Gemini into Siri raises concerns that personal information may be processed by technology developed by a company whose privacy practices I do not trust.

I strongly request:

A complete opt-out for Gemini-powered Siri features.
Continued support for a non-Gemini version of Siri.
Clear transparency reports explaining exactly what data is transmitted, retained, and accessible to Google.
The ability to disable all cloud AI processing while retaining traditional Siri functions.

My future purchasing decisions will very likely depend on whether Apple continues to provide privacy-focused alternatives.

Apple has stated that Gemini integration in Siri is optional, not mandatory. Siri requests are intended to remain handled by Apple by default, and users are expected to be asked before information is sent to third-party models such as Google Gemini. Apple also provides controls for Apple Intelligence features, including options to disable them, and emphasizes on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute where possible.

For concerns about privacy, transparency, and opt-out options, the most reliable source will be Apple’s official privacy documentation and feature settings as Gemini support rolls out. If maintaining a fully non-Google experience is important, it is reasonable to monitor whether Apple continues offering traditional Siri functionality and clear controls over cloud AI use.

Captain Brown ~ Perhaps the following quote from an Apple executive will allay your concerns:

"Of course, we don’t have the Gemini app as our app. In fact, none of that client code is part of how we run on iOS. For these models, we use none of the models that Google deploys to their customers, nor do we use the infrastructure and means by which they deploy models to their customers. And then, when it comes to the knowledge base, we of course don’t use Google Search or anything like that as the foundation of our system. So I hope that’s clear.
