How to cancel a pending subscription.

I subscribed to an app and would like to cancel the subscription.

The subscription appears to be stuck or pending on my App Store due to payment problem, and it is causing issues when I try to download or subscribe to other apps.

How to cancel this subscription.

Resolve the issue with the payment method, pay for the subscription, cancel it, then ask for a refund.

If you need to change or update your Apple Account payment method - Apple Support

If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

If you wish you can contact Apple but I am not remembering anybody ever claiming they canceled a pending subscription for them once it was in the system and it was delayed by payment.

It is not possible to cancel a Pending purchase because it has already been authorized by you and you still owe that amount. Cancelling a subscription just prevents a future charge, it will not remove a current or Pending charge. You also cannot request a refund on a Pending charge.

All you can do is let the payment proceed using a valid payment method, then attempt to request a refund. In most cases all transactions in the App Store are final due to the explicit actions required to authorize a purchase, but at times Apple may provide a compassionate refund.

You won't be able to download/update apps while you continue to owe money from a previous purchase.

Hello~ If you have a pending charge …it must be paid. Do you have a viable payment method on your account? If not …you will need to add one. See below.

Add a payment method to your Apple Account - Apple Support

After the payment has processed then you may ask for a refund…

Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

Note the refund may or may not be granted. Apple sometimes grants refunds as a courtesy.

If need be contact Apple…

Thank you for reaching out. 😉

It seems you may need to contact Apple Support directly, but first, be sure to → cancel a subscription.

Then click ▶︎ Request a Refund.

NOTE: Refunds are not guaranteed, they are the exception.

According to Apple:

If your refund is approved, the funds are applied to the same payment method that you used to buy the item.

Here's how long it takes for a refund to appear on your account or statement:

Store credit—It might take up to 48 hours to see the refund in your Apple Account balance.

Mobile phone billing—It might take up to 60 days for the statement to show the refund. Processing time might be affected by your carrier. You can contact your carrier for an update.

Credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Apple Cash, and all other payment methods—It might take up to 30 days for the statement to show the refund. If you don't see the refund after 30 days, contact your financial institution.

Note: Once a decision has been made on your refund request, you will get a follow up email from Apple.

Click ▶︎ Check Refund Status.

Final Note: I have written a detailed user-tip on this subject that goes into greater detail. See ▶︎ Request A Refund for more.

Good luck! 👋🏼😉
