Pages screen follows cursor after switching apps on iPad

I’ve been having this weird bug on iPad where when I’m writing, if I switch to a different app, like to do some research or something, and then switch back to Pages, now the center of the screen follows the cursor rather than the screen just staying centered on the page like normal. Sometimes I can fix it by tabbing out and back again, but usually I have to fully close the app and reopen it. Does anyone know how to prevent this or am I just cursed with being slightly inconvenienced forever? I’ve attached a screenshot because I’m not able to attach a video.

This annoying issue happens when iPadOS gets confused by multitasking or external keyboards. You are not cursed. You can usually fix this bug quickly without closing the app by tapping with two fingers, turning off Stage Manager or Split View, or disconnecting your external keyboard.

How to Fix and Prevent the Bug

Quick Fixes

  • Two-Finger Tap: Tap the page with two fingers to reset the view.
  • Toggle Multitasking: Swipe the app into Split View and back, or turn off Stage Manager in your settings.
  • Disconnect Keyboard: Turn off Bluetooth or unplug your keyboard, then type with the screen keyboard once.
