iPhone 16 stuck in satellite mode, impacting messaging

iPhone 16 stuck in satellite mode? We reside in a rural area heavily dependent on WiFi. While traveling on roads, we encounter drop zones ranging from 1 bar LTE to SOS. Yesterday working at a client’s home I found myself in an SOS zone. I opted for satellite to send important timely messages. Since returning home, we no longer require satellite. Others are attempting to send messages but they’re not able to due to satellite mode or must select satellite mode to send. I have disabled all satellite-related features on my phone, including airplane mode, cellular, and satellite within cellular. Despite this there’s no indication satellite is active on my phone, yet no one can send messages without the indicator message of satellite mode only coming up. How do I get out of this twilight zone?

Yes, I have cellular enabled currently. I also disabled it in trying to disable the satellite that seems to be stuck like a barnacle lol.

My phone is updated with latest iOS version 26.5

No, oddly my iPhone screen does not show that SOS is on. Nor does it show that it is enabled under cellular settings. However when others are trying to reach me or text me, the blue message appears saying this user is only available over satellite - then the iMessage either won’t go through or it will ask if they want to send it over satellite.

Good point, thank you for bringing that up! I will look into that option next.
