All airdrops sent from MacBook Pro to another device failed

My Macbook Pro (2021, running on Sequoia Version 15.6.1) can no longer send airdrops to my iPad Air (running on OS 26.5) or iPhone 16. My mac is able to find both devices but when I click on them to airdrop it shows as "waiting" for a couple minutes then "Failed". This happens with both PDF files and photos. (The PDF I want to send is 45 MB and I have also tested it using just one photo, so it is not a file size issue.)

My mac can accept airdrops from both devices. My airdrop settings are on for all devices, all on the same wifi network, personal hotspot is off, bluetooth is on, discoverability is not restricted, I keep the receiving device unlocked. I have already tried turning bluetooth and wifi off for 10 seconds then turning it back on. I have also tried restarting my mac. Nothing is working someone please let me know what could be wrong!!

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.6

Also after updating the OS and still experiencing trouble, if you have a VPN/Antivirus on either device, remove it. Simply turning one off may not be enough and you would have to completely uninstall it. Apple documents the issues with VPN's and Antivirus software here where they can cause problems with communications between devices on the same network, including AirPlay and Continuity Features.

If your device has network connectivity issues, check for VPN and other third-party security software - Apple Support

For the Mac, it is possible to view the background processes that run when started up and continue where they could interfere with either sending or receiving files. The easiest way is to post the free EtreCheck report from your Mac using the Additional Text option when posting. It contains no personal information.

The current stable release of Sequoia including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 15.7.7

— I would start there and compare your results...
