MacBook asks for password twice after boot/sleep

Hi, each time I turn on my MacBook, I had to enter the password twice: when booting the computer and after resuming from the sleep mode for the first time (the "Your password is required to enable touch id" message is displayed). The problem is mentioned on many support forums:

This is my third Mac, and the previous two did not have this issue: it was enough to enter the password once when booting it. Dear Apple developers, please fix this very annoying regression bug. Thank you

System settings (MacOS Sequoia, the latest version):

Logout automatically after inactivity is disabled in Privacy & Security -> Advanced
Use Touch ID to unlock your Mac is enabled in Touch ID & Password
In Lock Screen, the Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off setting is set to After 1 minute. I can set it to a longer period, but Mac would ask for the password after this time, so this is not very helpful.
FileVault is on
In Users & Groups, Automatically log in as is grayed because FileVault is enabled.

I have seen this occur on some of my organization's Macs. On our Macs it is likely due to having multiple user accounts on the device with one of them already being logged in when the system locked itself and Filevault (or a combination of both).

As @leroydouglas mentions, perhaps your Filevault authentication has gotten out of sync with your macOS login password. Normally they are tied together to make things seemless, but sometimes (usually after changing a password) they can get out of sync. Turning Filevault off & back on is one way to resolve that particular issue since on the 2018+ models the process is nearly instantaneous although it will create a new Filevault Recovery Key which you want to make sure you keep safe somewhere.

When first booting, the double login is surely due to FileVault.

FWIW, your drive is already encrypted, anyway, so I'd recommend to just keep FileVault off.

After sleep, and without logging out, you should still need to enter your password ONCE. I have no idea why you'd be asked twice in this situation. Are you sure your mac did not shut down?

This is you admin account(?) no a secondary account?

My understanding—

Apple's FileVault does not require you to log in twice. When you turn on FileVault, your Mac will present an initial pre-boot unlock screen. Once you enter your password here, it decrypts the drive and passes that exact same authentication directly into macOS to log you into your user account.

If you changed your password somewhere along the line they could be out of sync.

Turning off Filevault is easy enough to do and compare your results I would start there.

When you reboot your Mac you are always required to Login.
