Home app lights turn on at 3:12 AM without automations

The lights in my bedroom are turning on at 3:12 am pacific time every month or two. Anyone know why that would be happening and how to stop it? There are no automations programmed. I have to reset the bulbs by manually turning off the light, then back on. Then cycle the switch for the bulb in the Home app to get them to function correctly.

Your bedroom lights likely turn on because of a power blip that resets the bulb state, or a stale cloud sync bug in your smart home platform triggering a ghost routine. Check your smart home app for hidden routines, verify your bulb firmware, and disable power-loss recovery settings.

How to Fix It

  • Update firmware: Check your bulb app (Hue, Wiz, Kasa, etc.) to install the latest software updates.
  • Change power-loss behavior: Look in the bulb settings for "Power Recovery" or "Turn on after power outage" and set it to "Off" or "Previous Status."
  • Unlink third-party services: Disconnect old integrations in Apple Home, then re-link your account to clear ghost routines.
  • Factory reset bulbs: Remove the bulbs completely from your app, factory reset them per the maker's instructions, and set them up again as new.
