Easier way to set a loop region in Final Cut Pro?

Quick way to set up a loop region?

Hi folks! Any Logic users here? I can simply drag across the Ruler to set up a loop region. Simple. But in FCP, I have to:

  1. change to Range tool
  2. find a clip that spans the entire range I want to loop and drag
  3. change back to the tool I was using before

Is there an easier way that I'm missing? I've been searching, but haven't found anything. Thanks!

On the timeline, press the "i" key at the point you want to start your loop.

Press the "o" key at the point you want it to stop and loop back.

Go to the menu View > Playback, and with Loop Playback toggled on (Command+L), choose Play Selection or type Command + /.

In FCP, I can move the playhead by using the JKL keys (repeatedly tap the J or L key to fast wind), mark the in and out points, and then start the loop by keyboard shortcut. No mouse needed.

Why can't I just do something efficient like in Logic? They're basically sibling apps, and you'd think they came from different planets.

Non-linear editing evolved from physically editing film on Moviolas and Steenbeck Flatbeds, and combined those workflows and methodologies with those used in linear videotape editing. DAWs, however, evolved from multitrack studio tape recording. This is why there are many differences between NLEs and DAWs, like no RTZ function in Final Cut Pro - which was essential when punching in on the 24 track Studer.
