iCloud Mail: Custom domain error, length limits?

I tried to add a custom domain so I could use my iCloud service for my emails. Use Custom Email Domain with iCloud Mail – Apple Support (UK)

I was able to add

vendum.co

vendum.coffe

but not

vendum.coffee (the domain I want to use)

Are there limits to the length of the end of the domains I can add?

I get...

Enter the domain you want to use with iCloud Mail

Domain

Error

There was a problem with adding this domain. Please try again later.

Your help would be appreciated. At the moment I am using Cloudflare forwarding. For my emails, perhaps I should delete that first? Thanks!

Phil

Do you own the domain you are trying to add? You cannot just enter any value there. You must have already purchased the domain name from a domain registrar.

One tip when ready to purchase a domain name is to make a decision but never go online and search to see if someone already has it. If you do, automated processes WILL steal it. Instead, go to a respected registrar's website (e.g. https://www.gandi.net), search for the domain, and then buy it on the spot. Once you own the domain, then return to following Apple's instructions.
