Text purporting to be a fraud alert from Apple Pay

I received a text today saying a "high-risk pre-authorization of $715.35 was initiated through my Apple Pay" from an unrecognized device. The text suggests I call the "Apple Official Hotline" and gives a number. I was a little spooked because because I first used Apple Pay last month after my wallet was stolen while I was traveling; I was able to cancel all the cards I lost with the banks, deleted them from Apple Pay, and made the one card I had left at home the Apple Pay default. I checked that card today, and there are neither odd charges nor a fraud alert. The text sounds like a scam. Do you agree?

Common scam. Delete it and move on.

Thank you for reaching out. 🤗

The text message you received was a scam.

Simply block, report and delete the message.

Here is the exact phrase that most scammers use: "We have noticed some unusual activity", and in your case, the scammers used "high-risk pre-authorization of $715.35" in an attempt to fool you into believing their scam.

Never click any links or call phony phone numbers they provide!
