MacBook Neo: Software install, backlit keyboard, touchscreen

Neither the backlit keyboard nor a touchscreen as software based. Those are both pretty involved Hardware modifications. As in, you need a completely different screen for it to be touch screen and a completely different keyboard that has the backing less for that. They aren't simple add-ons.

Apple does not offer a way to add either to the MacBook Neo, so price would be dependent on whoever does that type of work.

Do note, these types of mods will void your warranty completely. Apple will not fix it or even touch it ion you prefer those modifications.

If you want an Apple laptop with a backlit keyboard, then go for the MacBook Air instead. It is the next step up from the Neo.

If you want an Apple device with a touch screen, then get an iPad. Now, there could be another possible option since Apple introduced the Sidecar feature not too long ago where an iPad can be tied to your Mac to add an extra screen which does have touch capabilities & the use of the "pencil". If you want a single device with such capabilities and this is not sufficient, then there are devices from other manufacturers out there which provide those hardware features, but will be using Windows for the OS (perhaps Linux or ChromeOS). Some of those devices may even allow the screen to be folded back onto the base so it can be held as a tablet.

You can't "add" either one.

There once were Macs that had a Touch Bar (small touch screen strip) in place of function keys, but that is as close as Apple has ever gotten to producing a touch screen Mac. The ergonomics of using a large, vertical touch screen are not great, in terms of potential arm pain from long-term use, and in terms of your finger blocking your view and making it hard to precisely position the pointer.

However, there is the Sidecar feature (Use an iPad as a second display for a Mac - Apple Support), and I believe that there are third-party touch-screen drawing tablets (like Wacom pen tablets) that may work with Macs.

Apple has never and does not currently produce a touch screen Mac. The backlit keyboard was left out because of the fact that the Neo was designed to be a budget device. Simple
