I've had this happen once or twice in the past. It may have been caused by apps that were being updated but were interrupted in some way (I am not sure).
If you can & as a test, delete one of the apps (that does not have a lot of login requirements or is least "important" to you) and then reinstall that app from the App Store. This will most times fix the issue. Also try a Forced Restart after doing so (a Restart and a Forced Restart are different).
Follow the directions at the top of the page. Note there are two different procedure depending on whether or not your iPad has or does not have a Home button.
Flightradar24 was restored bij itself this morning, the other 2 I deleted and were reinstalld, and that worked perfectly. Simple idea, that I didn't think of it myself, even ChatGPT could not think of this solution.
Thanks Allan Jones, Sergzak and Bobseufert for helping me,
Geo
What iPadOS version is your iPad running. I've had those with older iPadOS versions but not recently.
The iPad is not reading all the data it needs to draw the icon. It draws a "placeholder" instead, I would see if a restart fixes it. It has worked for me,
Also see how much of your storage is used.
Have you had any success following Allen Jones’ or SergZak’s suggestions?
If not the next step would be to delete the apps if you can then reinstall them.
If that doesn’t work the next step is to hook your iPad up to a computer and Restoring it.
Thanks Allen,
Version is iPadOS 18.7.9, I made a restart and have 150 GB of free storage, but still it doesn't work. Chat couldn't help me, thought it is either a soft or hardware problem and suggested to contact Apple, any other suggestion?
Appreciation,
Geo
Thanks SergZak, I missed my ASC buddies. Also I reached that age my brain needs all the exercise I can give it. Since using an iPad is one of the few things I actually know what I’m talking about there is no better place then here.

Non-edible brain food. 😉
Were you aware that we lost our buddy Demo a couple of years ago? Quite sad.
Stay well, Bob.
Thanks for the info on Demo, I was wondering where he was. As far as I’m concerned he set a standard in helping people. He would stick with the OP’s problem until he solved it. No throwing pages of Apple Support links at the OP or copy/pasting an AI answer.
Thank you Demo, may you rest in peace.
Good to hear your keystrokes again, Bob. Yes, we are as a group feeling the years. I'm in my 25th year here and have seen too many amazing helpers take the Long Trail.
When we are called "senior contributors," it has two meanings!
Thanks Allan for the welcome. I can’t believe it’s been 13 years since I found my way here. I had a choice when I bought my first Apple product, an iPad 4. I could head over to the Apple Store whenever I had a question or I could learn about enough about iPads to form a semi-intelligent question and ask it here. It’s been a ride. Looking forward In the words of Buzz Lightyear “To Infinity and Beyond!”
Thanks for the follow-up info. Do all app icons do this or just a few?
Good to hear that you got it sorted…and no thanks to our “friend”, AI
You've been missed, Bob...welcome back 👍
You’re welcome. Thanks for returning and telling us what worked. You helped the next person with a similar problem.
Ha-ha, re-reading the thread I see you beat me to the Delete-Reinstall fix. Well done. Also AI can kiss my heine.
