2018 Mac mini HDMI issues: Color, passwords (Sonoma/Sequoia

2018 mac mini os sonoma & sequoia bug report

if monitor is connected via hdmi port..

color rendering is not optimal, really lousy in sonoma

Sequoia suffers pointless, repetitive password dialogs appear at launch of disk utility app/ startup disk control panel, etc.

These issues disappear if monitor is connected via usb c port (in my case to the monitor's display port... don't have a usb c to hdmi cable to test this time)

os ventura is not impacted

Mac mini, macOS 15.7

This is about intel mac minis, 2018 in particular which can't run tahoe.

I acknowledged that fact in my post. I was and am suggesting that perhaps an update patch to Sonoma or Sequoia may have done the same thing as the Tahoe installer/updater and automatically & secretly enabled Filevault without informing you. If Apple did it for Tahoe, why not patches to the older versions of macOS?

Nothing about these bogus password dialogs is normal.
I've described this in detail elsewhere in this thread.

My last two posts were in regards to two very specific issues & conditions you mentioned in later posts.....I was not necessarily addressing the issues as described in your original post (or earlier posts) because I had no idea of the issue you were experiencing or the problem you were trying to solve, nor did anyone else it seems since the original contributors responding here voiced their confusion shortly before I jumped in here.

I have automatic login enabled on all 5 of my macs since i live alone and am the only user.

So filevault can't be enabled.

All 3 of my intel mac minis suffer the sequoia bogus password dialog issue beginning with 15.7.3.

Today, i wiped and rebuilt the 2018 mini internal ssd from backup with fresh installs of 15.7.2 and 15.7.7.

With no change in 15.7.7 misbehavior.

So... i'm so done chasing down every rabbit hole to prove that 15.7.3 is bug ridden.

You would think so, but I recall people who upgraded to Tahoe thought the same thing. Did you bother checking anyway even if it is wildly implausible (and so easy to check)?

I'm still not sure to which issue you are referring here....is it just Disk Utility asking for authentication when it launches? Or CCC as well? Or the HDMI & color issues?

I guess you can just install the exact version of Sequoia where you do not encounter the "bug" and just not install any further update patches. Since I haven't really seen anyone else mentioning the issues here, I can only assume it seems to be unique to your setups & configurations which implies it may be an issue with some third party software you have installed.

Well I guess I will abandon this thread then. I wish you well.
