Hi,

I just tested this on my Studio Display XDR when connected directly to a MAC device, including when the connected MAC device is in sleep mode and there is no fan running.

I'm going to assume its the same behaviour for the Apple Studio display according to my searches.....

  • Normal Behavior: The fans should stop spinning shortly after the display loses its connection to a powered computer or when the connected Mac enters sleep mode (unless a specific macOS bug is active).

  • Troubleshooting Steps:

> Power Cycle: Unplug the Studio Display from power for at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in to reset the internal power unit and fans.

> Firmware Update: Ensure the display firmware is up to date by connecting it to a Mac and checking for system updates.

> If your MAC device and Studio display are connected to a hub, check if this is the cause......

  • Hardware Issue: If the fans continue to run loudly or at max speed while unplugged from any power source or device, the unit likely has a faulty sensor or power supply component. In this case, you should contact Apple Support for a potential replacement or repair.
