Disk not on desktop, visible in Disk Utility
I eject a disk and unplug the usb connection, disk does not show on desk top , but does in disk utility sidebar

Go to Finder > Finder Settings... > General tab > make sure that External disks is checked.
Then jump over to the Sidebar tab and make sure the External disks is checked.
