New iPad Pro screen makes a clicking sound when pressed

The sound that you hear suggests that the screen assembly is not properly bonded to the iPad's aluminium casing. The "clicking" is very likely the adhesive un-sticking after applied physical pressure has partially re-bonded the screen edge to the chassis.

You might try carefully working firm (but not excessive) finger pressure around the edge of the screen bezel. If this fails to improve the bond, you would be best advised to return the IPad to your retailer for exchange.

Given the recent purchase of your iPad, you would be best advised to return it to the retailer to explore your options to exchange it under warranty. If purchased directly from Apple, you have 14-days within which to unconditionally return the item for exchange or refund; where applicable, you should waste no time in bringing the issue to the attention of the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store:

If purchased from any other retailer, you will need to explore their own returns policy - although you will have benefit of consumer law that operates in your country/region.

As Bob mentioned, take it back to the Apple Store ASAP. You have 14 days to return it for any reason. Get it taken care of now that you can. Get a new one and fully test it in the store before taking it home. It may be difficult to hear a faint clicking in a busy store but give it a try.

There are such things as "duds", even with Apple products and maybe you've been unfortunate to get one with a dud screen. This is not a common issue so you may have just been unlucky

Thank you MHD for further clarification. I went to Notes and rested my palm on the screen to see if I could detect something and all I got was silence. I have to agree with Serg, if you are within the two week return window I’d swap it for one that doesn’t click.

This is long shot. I’m guessing you’re using an Apple pencil, could that be contributing to the clicking sound?

Maybe the pencil is triggering a system sound.

1) You can "live" with the issue - which other than being a minor annoyance, is unlikely to impact normal operation of your iPad.

Does it still click if you rotate your iPad 180°? If no you have a temporary fix. If you can I’d still recommend trading it in. I've replaced iPads for much less serious reasons.

I just did some serious pressing on my iPad Pro 6 screen to test and there was no clicking sound. I’d recommend heading back to the Apple Store to let them have a look at it.

I don’t know if this helps but always remember it’s a touch screen and not a press screen.

If the sound follows the screen rotation, it's definitely something physical with the screen. Whether it's a screen bonding issue (as mentioned by LotusPilot) or some other misalignment or mishap while manufacturing, it seems you have no recourse but to live with it (going by your indicated circumstances) or use the iPad upside down where it may not be as noticeable...iPads are technically usable either way because of the screen rotation feature but some apps may "lock" the device in a particular rotation. This can be circumvented by switching the iPad to Windowed Apps mode which allows rotation of apps in all four directions.

It's too bad it didn't manifest itself earlier when you first purchased it. Good luck to you and sorry we couldn't help much.

Thanks you MDH for the further info. I’m stumped, beyond recommending not placing your palm on the screen anymore I have nothing.
